Did a wedding at The Bingham in Richmond on Saturday. It’s a lovely venue on the banks of the Thames and they have a built in sound system which makes things a little easier in as much as not having to take in lots of gear and then spend an hour setting it all up. The DJ box is pretty claustrophobic though and not a lot of room to move around in there.

The bride and her family were from Preston and the groom was local and seemed much older. It was quite a nice day, certainly in comparison to the weather over the last few weeks. Everyone was very much enjoying chilling out by the river and consequently the 8.45 time slot for the first dance was clearly never gonna happen. Whilst waiting for the first dance I got chatting with the photographer and it turned out that he’d gotten married himself the day before! It turns out they’d already had a honeymoon a few weeks ago after travelling around various countries and his new bride was fine that he was out working the day after they got married!

Anyway back to the Bingham; we eventually did the first dance just before 9.30 (Take That-Greatest Day), so wasn’t leaving a lot of time for the music considering that the music at The Bingham has to stop at 11pm! Sure enough it seemed like I’d only played a few tunes and suddenly it was the last song and people were complaining that we’d only just started… that’s the biggest problem with playing at this venue. It’s always a little frustrating finishing that early, cos at 11pm the crowd is always pumped up and are rightly surprised at having to finish so early.

Still made a real change as I got home at 2 minutes before midnight!A good couple of hours earlier than normal.
